Iyengar Yoga

Chiropractie Brunssum is now offering Iyengar Yoga, which is a quality and safe form of Yoga practice.

Iyengar Yoga is named after its developer, the Indian yoga master Bellur Krishnamacharya Sundaram Iyengar, also known as B.K.S. Iyengar.

He is credited with bringing Yoga to the western world and is considered one of the most important yoga teachers in the world.

B.K.S Iyengar practiced yoga throughout his entire life. At 16 years old he came into contact with yoga after suffering from poor health throughout his childhood. A history which included malaria, tuberculosis, typhus and other childhood sicknesses. He credits yoga with returning his vitality and strength which allowed him to continue practicing, developing and teaching yoga for another 80 years.

In 2004, he was named one of the 100 most influential people of the twentieth century by TIME Magazine.

Form of Hatha Yoga

Iyengar Yoga, which is a form of Hatha Yoga, is distinguished from other forms of yoga because of its attention to precise demonstration and instruction from the teacher. This ensures safely transitioning in and out of a pose. The focus on alignment of the body (feet, arms, trunk, back, neck, bones and muscles) allows the student to not only practice safer and better receive the benefits, but to also store the “memory” of the correct mechanics of the pose. Proper alignment is obtained via the use of props (such as blankets, bolsters, belts, chairs walls, etc.) which enable the student to approach, feel, examine, remember and stay in the optimal posture for a longer period of time.

When you practice yoga consistently you become stronger, your muscles lengthen and become suppler, and your joints get more flexible.

The lessons are dynamic and follow a logical sequence. All of the poses (postures) are covered.  We begin with the standing poses and progress through sitting poses, forward bends, backward bends, inversions, balancing, abdominal training and twists.

Every lessons ends with a lying rest pose.
