Chiropractic manipulative therapy, also called spinal manipulative therapy (SMT), is a manual therapy utilized by chiropractic physicians, doctors of osteopathy, and physical therapists. The physician or therapist uses their hands or tools to provide a quick but very gently impulse into a joint. This type of therapy has a mechanical and neurological effect on the body resulting in decreased pain and stiffness.
